Matheson Bingham Memorial Hospital Handrail

A Client was requested by Matheson Bingham Memorial Hospital to complete the structural steel design of a new steel stair handrail to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC). The existing steel handrail did not meet current OBC standards and was required to be replaced as part of a recent Ministry of Labour order. We were tasked with completing all structural steel design by gathering existing as-built information of the reinforced concrete stairs via 3D laser scanning and to ensure that our design could be installed with the least amount of intrusive work. All handrails were installed successfully without any modifications required, thankfully to the accurate information gathered in the field.
